MBA Programs Offered by the Rotman School of Management
Rotman offers a wide range of MBA programs tailored to meet the needs of students at various career stages. The Full-Time MBA is a two-year program that combines 16 months of academic study with a four-month paid internship, offering opportunities for experiential learning and international study. Students can choose from over 100 elective courses, allowing them to customize their learning experience.
For working professionals, Rotman offers the Morning MBA or Evening MBA, which allows students to continue their careers while studying twice a week, either before or after work. These programs take three years to complete and offer the flexibility needed for professionals to balance work and study.
The One-Year Executive MBA is designed for senior professionals and executives, offering an intensive leadership experience over 13 months. This program aims to enhance strategic insights and leadership skills through interactions with globally recognized faculty and industry leaders.
For those seeking a global perspective, the Global Executive MBA offers a transformative 18-month program conducted across seven cities on four continents. In collaboration with the SDA Bocconi School of Management, this program focuses on personalized leadership development on a global scale. Similarly, the Global Executive MBA in Healthcare and Life Sciences is an immersive 15-month program designed to provide global insights in healthcare management, conducted across three continents.
Rotman also offers combined degree and specialization programs, allowing students to pair their MBA with another degree from the University of Toronto, saving time and enhancing their qualifications.
Application Deadlines
Prospective MBA students should be mindful of the application deadlines for the Full-Time MBA Class of 2027, which begins in September 2025. The four rounds of application deadlines are as follows:
- Round 1: September 25, 2024
- Round 2: January 15, 2025
- Round 3: March 5, 2025 (international students are encouraged to apply by this round)
- Round 4: April 30, 2025
Given the high volume of applications and the competitive nature of the program, it is recommended that international applicants, in particular, apply by Round 3 to allow sufficient time for visa processing.
Admission Criteria: Are You Eligible?
To be eligible for the MBA program at the Rotman School of Management, applicants must meet several admission requirements. First, candidates must hold an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (mid-B average) in the final year from a recognized university. For international students, the University of Toronto provides an International Degree Equivalency site to help calculate GPA equivalencies.
A satisfactory score on the GMAT or GRE is also required. While the GMAT is the more common choice, exemptions from this requirement may be granted to candidates with specific qualifications such as passing the Level II examination of the CFA designation or obtaining the CPA designation. Applicants with high academic distinction in their undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto may also qualify for an exemption.
Additionally, candidates must have at least two years of full-time work experience, along with strong professional references. The application process involves submitting an essay and a video interview to showcase communication skills and personal motivation. International applicants must also provide proof of English language proficiency through tests like TOEFL or IELTS. Upon review, selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which is the final step in the admission process.
Tuition Fees and Living Costs
The tuition fees for the Full-Time MBA program at Rotman are significant, reflecting the value of the education and opportunities provided. For the Class of 2026, tuition for Canadian citizens and permanent residents is CAD $92,540 for the entire program, while international students are charged CAD $139,140. These fees are split between the first and second year of study, with Canadian residents paying CAD $46,270 per year, and international students paying CAD $68,880 in the first year and CAD $70,260 in the second year.
In addition to tuition, students must account for living expenses in Toronto, which are estimated to be between CAD $23,856 and CAD $38,756 for the first 12 months. These expenses cover accommodation, food, personal expenses, public transportation, and health insurance (for international students). Other academic expenses include textbooks and a laptop, which are estimated to cost between CAD $3,600 and CAD $4,000. Given Toronto’s high cost of living, international students are advised to prepare a budget accordingly.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
Rotman School of Management offers extensive scholarship opportunities, with over CAD $6 million in scholarships and awards distributed each year. One-third of all MBA students receive Entrance Awards, which are based on academic merit. These awards range from CAD $10,000 to CAD $90,000, and no separate application is required—candidates are automatically considered during the admission process.
Some of the notable scholarships include the Joseph L. Rotman Scholarship, awarded to outstanding candidates, and the Dean’s Scholars Awards, which are given to students with exceptional academic and leadership potential. There are also awards for in-program students and special scholarships such as the Jeffrey Skoll Scholarship and the CIBC Scholarships, aimed at supporting students in specific areas like life sciences and healthcare. For Indigenous students, the U of T Indigenous Tuition Grant provides additional financial support.
