MPSC Postpones Civil Services Prelims Exam; Students Demand Inclusion of Agri Posts | IIT EXPERT |

PUNE: After widespread protests from government-job aspirants, the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) on Thursday postponed the Maharashtra Gazetted Civil Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2024, which was scheduled for August 25.
Candidates, however, continued their strike, demanding the inclusion of 258 Agriculture Services posts in the postponed exam.On Tuesday, Karjat Jamkhed MLA Rohit Pawar joined the protest on Shastri Road, while NCP (SCP) leader Sharad Pawar tweeted late Wednesday that if the government doesn’t address the students’ demands by Thursday, he will personally join the protest in Pune ‘to secure justice for them’.
Aspirants for the MPSC Civil Services exam and candidates vying for Group A, B, and junior cadre positions in Maharashtra Agriculture Services have been protesting since Tuesday for various reasons.
One major demand of the protesting candidates was the postponement of the exam as it clashed with the IBPS Clerk Prelims on the same date, a demand MPSC agreed to. Agriculture students are protesting the exclusion of 258 Agriculture Service posts from the Civil Services Prelims, a move that has yet to be addressed by the MPSC. On Wednesday, the commission stated that a separate exam for these posts would be held in late October, with an advertisement to follow within 2-3 days.

On Thursday, MPSC posted on X, ‘In the commission meeting held today, it has been decided to postpone the Maharashtra Gazetted Civil Services Combined Preliminary Examination 2024 scheduled on 25th August 2024. The exam date will be announced soon.’
“It is the duty of the government to consider the interests of the students regarding the protest called by MPSC students in Pune. But the rulers do not seem to be taking it seriously. If the government does not clarify the right position on this by tomorrow (Thursday), then I myself will participate in the protest at the protest site of Pune and enter the field to get justice for the students,” said the post by Sharad Pawar on Wednesday.
