BERHAMPUR: Seven students from the government-run-Parala Maharaja Engineering College in Berhampur have been expelled from their hostels. The expulsion was due to their alleged involvement in restricted activities in a hostel room on Wednesday night, which violated the rules and code of conduct, the college authorities said.
The dean of student welfare issued an office order on Thursday, announcing the expulsion of the students from two hostels with the approval of the competent authorities.
In addition to the expulsion, one of the students was also fined Rs 2000. The college authorities have informed the parents of the expelled students about the decision. Some students of the college alleged that the expelled students had illegally prepared beef in the hostel room, and they had complained about this to the college principal. As a precautionary measure, police force was deployed near the college campus and hostels to prevent any untoward incidents.
According to sources, the action against the students was taken after conducting an inquiry and based on the decision made in a college meeting. The police have stated that they are keeping a strict watch on the situation to ensure that no further issues arise.
