Tamil Nadu Schools Reopen Today: Schools in Tamil Nadu are set to reopen today after an extended break following the quarterly exams for the current academic year. Students from government, government-aided, and private schools, ranging from Class 1 to Class 12, had their first-term exams between September 19 and September 27. Following the conclusion of the exams, a holiday break was given to students starting from September 28.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department had extended the holiday period for all educational institutions in the state.Initially scheduled to resume on October 3, 2024, the reopening was postponed to October 7 due to requests from various teachers’ associations. Consequently, all government, government-aided, and private schools, including primary, middle, high, and higher secondary institutions, remained closed until October 6, 2024. With schools reopening today, students have returned to their campuses, which underwent cleaning and maintenance works during the holiday period.
On the first day of reopening, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department has mandated the distribution of the evaluated quarterly exam answer sheets to students. Additionally, textbooks for the second semester, already sent to schools, are to be provided immediately. These guidelines were shared earlier via email with the headmasters, local reports suggest.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rain, thunder, and lightning in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu due to a cyclonic circulation prevailing over the central west and southwest Bay of Bengal. According to local reports, this weather system is expected to bring intense rainfall to several areas, impacting regions like Kerala, southern Karnataka, and northeastern states as well.
Previously, the IMD forecasted the possibility of heavy rainfall in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the southern parts of Karnataka, as well as the eastern parts of the country, particularly the north eastern states.
In its latest statement, the Chennai Meteorological Department confirmed that the southwest monsoon has strengthened across various parts of Tamil Nadu, based on local reports. Cuddalore and Sivagangai districts recorded the highest rainfall at 13 cm. The current weather conditions are attributed to a low-pressure system that formed over the Andhra coast in the Bay of Bengal a few days ago. As a result, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected to continue across most parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until October 12.
In Chennai and its suburbs, the forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with chances of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next two days.
