West Bengal Teacher Recruitment: WBSSC Issues Final Merit List

West Bengal Teacher Recruitment: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released the final merit list for the recruitment of Assistant Teachers, following an order by the Calcutta High Court. The list includes over 14,000 shortlisted candidates, with the counselling process expected to begin around first week of October 2024.
Candidates, who appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) in 2016, have been awaiting final appointments due to multiple legal challenges that led the High Court to nullify the previous selection process. The court had directed the WBSSC to prepare a new merit list, excluding candidates with discrepancies in caste certificates or educational qualifications.

Out of 14,052 candidates eligible for the merit list, around 9,000 have been placed in the main panel, with the rest in the waiting list. The list, which is available on the WBSSC’s website, does not include those with irregularities, in compliance with the court’s order. Additionally, nearly 100 candidates were excluded due to issues with their documents.
The West Bengal Teacher Recruitment process has faced delays since 2014, when the notification for the Upper Primary Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) was first issued. Several legal hurdles and challenges arose over alleged irregularities, ultimately leading to fresh directives from the High Court, which now paves the way for the final counselling process.
